Wade Guton is an American conceptual artist, installation artist and painter who uses scanners and digital inkjet printers to create his artworks.
Guyton graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1995 and from Hunter College in New York City in 1998. Among other things, he worked as a security guard for the Dia Art Foundation in its Chelsea exhibition space until 2004.
Guyton’s first drawings from around 2003 were black X signs printed on torn-out pages from design magazines and furnishing catalogues from the 1960s. The black colour and the letter X have been his trademark ever since. In the early years, he printed his works on materials such as canvas, book pages, advertising pages and plywood. Since 2005, he has favoured canvases, which he then exhibits as series, as rectangles of the same size, standing vertically and at equal distances from each other.
